Perhaps, now that the Cyborg Saga and Trunks Special have been dubbed into English, most of you know already know about the two different Juuhachis that exist. There is the Juuhachi that awakens in the "normal" timeline, where #19 and #20 were the first jinzouningen to confront the Z warriors, and then there is the Juuhachi that awakens, kills all of the Z warriors and procedes to rule the world with her brother, though fairly bored half-way through domination (heh). There is also, for me, a third variation of Juuhachi; the one from my role-playing universe...though I'm still wondering if I should post her up here. But I digress. Read on, dear visitor!
Juuhachi-gou (the "normal" #18)
This is the Juuhachi we see most often, the nicer one that doesn't murder people all the time. ^_^v Unlike in Trunks' future, the first two jinzouningen to appear on the foretold day are not Juunana or Juuhachi-gou, but Juukyuu and Nijuu-gou (#19 and 20). For some reason, the flow of events changes from Trunks' prediction. Son Goku doesn't die of a heart disease and the rest of the Z warriors aren't massacred (unless you count Yamcha - he got pretty roughed up in the beginning. Heh.) Number 20 is not as strong as he calculates and is forced to activate 17 and 18, who apparently were too unruly the last time he activated them. After reawakening, they promptly off the poor Doctor and activate #16, another "failure" in his collection.
At their reactivation, the twins and #16 are all confronted by the Z warriors, Future Trunks included, but they simply shrug off the attempt on their lives and decide they might as well go kill this Son Goku guy, despite it being their original, lame-o programming. Aside from that decision, they seem to take no real interest in fighting or killing the Z warriors. Instead, they take off, hijack a pink trunk, and head off to look for Goku. And even before that, when a furious Vejita confronts them (soon followed by the rest of the gang) and demands a fight, they don't bother to kill anyone. They just give a few merciless beatdowns and that's it. Krillin doesn't even get hit during all this time! One must wonder if the twins are, for some reason, more docile in this timeline, or they just weren't at the mindset yet that murder is more fun (they weren't bored with the Z warriors yet).
If anything, I think perhaps the reason for this peculiar, less violent attitude of the twins is caused by the advent of Cell, who is tougher than them both (snuffing out some of Juunana's ego), and the fact that the Z warriors had time to prepare for their arrival. Early on, Juunana-gou is taken out from the picture, absorbed by Cell, and then there is Krillin awkwardly doting on our favorite "cute blonde." I think the loss of her brother, who would have otherwise pushed her to her future evil ways, and the affection of Krillin (which comes after Juuhachi is punched out of Cell's stomach), plus the fact that she wasn't the toughest miss thang around anymore is what changed her. Actually, all those differences are pretty obvious factors in her different, less-vicious attitude...don't you think?
Either way, #18 ends up finding a place among the Z warriors and starts a family with Krillin. She has a small, noseless blonde girl named Marron and just seems to spend her time raising Marron and sparring with Krillin at the Kame House. While not entirely kind-hearted and talkative with the rest of the gang, she doesn't seem to mind being around them that much. In certain times, she'll even help them out (like the time they were all screaming like headless chickens when the bus fell off the side of the cliff. 18 finally rolled her eyes and decided to fly out and put the thing back on the road. Oh and let's not forget the happily giving energy to Goku's genki dama thing). Personally, I think she likes Bulma the most out of all the women, and finds ChiChi and Videl fairly irritating (such pushy, nagging ladies, not to mention Videl's father is Mr. Satan, that lame-o!). She probably prefers just to spend her time with Krillin and Marron rather than at a picnic with the rest of the Z gang, singing karaoke. I wouldn't say she hates anyone, either...more like they just are too different from her to really be friends with. What is sad, however, is that it seems like she becomes too different even to stay close with her own brother. A shame, really, if you think about it...but I guess it can't be helped.
So really, the "normal" Juuhachi probably was never that different from the Juuhachi of the future. Like scientists have said, she turns out to be a product of her environment. Just goes to show you what a little love can do. Awwww...
Mirai Juuhachi-gou (Future #18)
This version of her is the totally evil, badass one. In the future, alternate timeline that Future Trunks hails from, #16, 19 and 20 never exist (well, they did but we don't see them) and it is #17 and 18 that appear that fateful day. Goku has already just passed away from heart disease (what a crappy way for a warrior to go, huh?), and so the only ones left to defend Earth are Vejita, Piccolo, Tien, Yamcha, Krillin, and the rest (Yajirobe and them fellas). And they all get killed by the twins, one by one (actually, they ganged up on Krillin, which is pretty damn mean). The only survivors take to hiding. Master Roshi and Puar stake it out under the sea near Kame House in a submarine, while ChiChi and her father, the Ox King, continue to reside at the Son house. Bulma remains in Capsule Corp, tinkering with her new time machine, while her young son Trunks continues to train with Gohan, the only warrior left to resist the Twins.
Since killing off all the Z warriors, for the most part, the Twins take to basically doing what they like and having a good time. Both 17 and 18 are disgusted by humans and have no problem shooting them down for the hell of it. While her brother goes on joy rides in red hot rods, running ningen down, she hangs out and watches from the side. Like in the normal Dragonball Z timeline, she is very much into fashion and still thinks her brother likes to play around too much. But unlike the normal DBZ timeline, she is much more vicious, uncaring and cruel. The senseless acts of violence she commits don't seem to bother her one bit, and the only two strong enough left to face her and not die immediately are seen as mere playthings.
She views Trunks as nothing but a nuisance and a brat, and when he grows older and becomes stronger, he appears to annoy her even more. It pleases her, however, to see him kept alive and in pain than to kill him off immediately. She had killed off Gohan with her bother too quickly, perhaps...and without someone strong enough to give a decent fight every now and then, what else would they do to pass the time? Her whole mindset in the future is disturbing. I can only imagine what would have happened when they finally had control of the entire earth, when Trunks had finally been killed. The Juuhachi of Trunks' future is selfish, callous, and thusly, very evil.
Juuhachi-gou of New Vejitasei (My rpg version of her)
Coming soon...cause it's gonna take a LOT of explaining to make sense to anyone else!
